Restoration / Repairs
Date of restoration and/or repairs :
The front face is curved.
The angle of the arms has been specially cared for: a rounded slant that gives it an overall impression of lightness.
This is a large cross, perhaps made of cut stone, and the sculptor showed his virtuosity, he was a master stonecutter...
The cross is slanted at an angle but it is not wobbly.
It should be paved with rough lime paving to protect it from humidity. It is surrounded by trees which protect it.
How it was made
Granite is ubiquitous here, it is everywhere in the fields
Each of the inventoried crosses was made by a different stonemason.
However, it seems that they all used the same model or « pattern ».
Each carver made his sculpture from some local granite stone known as a fieldstone.
Find out more with the expertise of Didier Fauguet, stone sculptor and carver.
