Characteristics
*
Cupule of 6 cm in diameter and 4 cm deep.
The master stone sculptor Didier FAUGUET says :
This cross is carefully carved on both sides. It has a large cupule.
Its rounded foot in "boletus" (mushroom) is particularly difficult to make, unless it was the natural shape of the stone used.
It is the work of a master.
* Characteristics recorded in 2013 by Noëlle BERTRAND and François TABOURDEAU
Restoration / Repairs
Date of restoration and/or repairs :
This cross was found by Mr. Lefort in the autumn of 1990, in the stonework of a road near a field called "The Field of the Cross". It is still in danger. It is located on the pilgrim route to Santiago de Compostela. It should be moved a few metres to the right.
Pilgrims still stop here today to place a stone.
How it was made
Granite is ubiquitous here, it is everywhere in the fields
Each of the inventoried crosses was made by a different stonemason.
However, it seems that they all used the same model or « pattern ».
Each carver made his sculpture from some local granite stone known as a fieldstone.
Find out more with the expertise of Didier Fauguet, stone sculptor and carver.
Location
Crozant type crosses are located between Oïl and Oc on the territory of the "croissant marchois".
