It is not embedded in the ground but in a stump... as long as the stump does not decay !

This cross is embedded in a tree stump; it used to mark the entrance to the château path from Pont Charraud. The owners explained to us that they had found this cross at the bottom of the ditch behind the castle. They installed it on a tree stump which is already largely decayed.
How it was made
Granite is ubiquitous here, it is everywhere in the fields
Each of the inventoried crosses was made by a different stonemason.
However, it seems that they all used the same model or « pattern ».
Each carver made his sculpture from some local granite stone known as a fieldstone.
